“Ningyou kuyou” (Doll Memorial Service) : October 5 (Sun)

Location: Hongaku-ji Temple, Komachi, Kamakura-City

After sutra chanting, a service will be held where dolls sent from various places throughout Japan are ritually burned within the temple precincts. Includes a Buddhist memorial service and ritual doll burning.

Isehara Tourism Doukan Festival :
October 4 (Sat) to October 5 (Sun)

Location: Isehara Station area pedestrian mall and other locations, Isehara-City

A festival in memory of Doukan Oota, who had close ties with Isehara. Events include a festival hayashi (orchestra) parade, wind instrument performances, kindergarten drum and fife parade, Isehara Sore parade, and carrying around mikoshi (portable shrines). There will also be a Doukan Oota falconry procession, Masako Houjou Hinata-yakushi Temple pilgrimage procession, armor troupe, children’s procession, dance festival, and Isehara Odori Odarao Night dancing.

World Festa Yokohama 2008 : October 11 (Sat) to October 12 (Sun)

Location: Yamashita Park, Naka-ward, Yokohama-City

This year’s theme is “A trip around the world: eat and enjoy!” and includes the 2008 special event “World Donburi Festival,” featuring a number of shops selling delicious donburi (rice bowls topped with a variety of ingredients) from countries around the world. Other booths selling the specialty food and beverages of various countries will also be set up in sea-breeze filled Yamashita Park.

Sagami Nebuta Carnival : October 12 (Sun)

Location: Liberty-dori Street from Iworld to City Hall and from JR Sagamihara Station to Sagami Yume-odori Street, Sagamihara-City

The Nebuta Carnival features small and large scale nebuta floats, a light and sound parade, food stalls, etc.

Ebina “Irodori” festa voltage7 : October 12 (Sun)

Location: Ebina Chuo Park venue, Asuka Tenpyo-dori Street venue, Sakura Namiki Shopping Street venue, Ebina-City

Approximately 30 talented Yosakoi Odori dance groups from within and without the prefecture gather in Ebina, enlivening the area with their dance. Woodwind instrument and taiko drum events will also be held.

Yokosuka Mikoshi Parade : October 19 (Sun)

Location: From Chuo-odori Street to Clement Blvd. at U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Yokosuka-City

A parade of approximately 70 mikoshi (portable shrines) and sansha (floats) will be held. The parade will start at Chuo-odori Street and head for Clement Street inside the Navy Base. Within the Base, American food stands, a food court, movie theater, and other facilities will be available.

Ichiya Castle Festival : October 19 (Sun)

Location: Mt. Ishigaki Ichiya Castle Historical Park, Hayakawa, Odawara-City

Events include hojo taiko drum performances, gagaku (traditional Japanese court music), magic, karate, kachidoki (victory songs), armor-clad dancers, Odawara bayashi music, qigong, tai chi chuan, and Odawara essa hoi odori dance.

2008 Shonan-Enoshima Autumn Festival and Dragon Boat Race : October 25 (Sat) to October 26 (Sun)

Location: Enoshima, Fujisawa-City and the mouth of the Sakaigawa River at the Katase Coast

Features street performances, street performance contests, street performance lessons, music performances, and shinshuu soba sampling (at Matsumotokan and Matsumoto Hiroba). Dragon boat races related to the legend of the heavenly maiden and the five-headed dragon will also be held.
