World Festa Yokohama 2007 : October 6 (Sat) to October 7 (Sun)

Location: Yamashita Park, Naka-ku, Yokohama-City

World Festa Yokohama 2007 will take place in sea-breeze filled Yamashita Park and feature many “World Food Booths” selling the specialty food and beverages of various countries. Other events include the 2007 special “World Curry” event, a fashion show introducing the native costumes and music of various participating countries, a “World Bazaar” selling world folk crafts, costumes, interior goods, etc., and stage performances of “World Dances and Music.”

“Ningyou kuyou” (Doll Memorial Service) : October 7 (Sun)

Location: Hongaku-ji Temple, Komachi, Kamakura-City

After sutra chanting, a service will be held where dolls sent from various places throughout Japan are ritually burned within the temple precincts. Includes a Buddhist memorial service and ritual doll burning.

Sagami Nebuta Carnival : October 7 (Sun)

Location: Liberty Street, Sagami Yume Street, Sagamihara-City

The Nebuta Carnival features a light and sound parade of small and large scale nebuta floats, haneto dance, taiko drums, marching bands, and yosakoi dance as well as food stalls, etc.

Isehara Tourism Doukan Festival
: October 13 (Sat) to October 14 (Sun)

Location: Isehara Station area pedestrian mall and other locations, Isehara-City

A festival in memory of Doukan Oota, who had close ties with Isehara. Events on Saturday the 13th include a visit to and festival in front of Doukan Oota’s grave, ISEHARA so-re dance, a parade, flea market, and acoustic concert. Various parades (boy and girl scout, komusou [begging zen priest] shakuhachi [bamboo flute] performance, children’s mikoshi [portable shrines], chigo [children’s] procession, Doukan Oota falconry procession, Masako Houjou Hinata-yakushi Temple pilgrimage procession, Isehara handmade armor troop, onbashira [log] hauling procession, ISEHARA odori odora night dance) will take place on Sunday the 14th, as well as dances, jazz bands, entertainer talk shows, children’s shows, etc.

2007 Shonan-Enoshima Autumn Festival and Dragon Boat Race
: October 20 (Sat) to October 21 (Sun)

Location: Enoshima, Fujisawa-City and the mouth of the Sakaigawa River at the Katase Coast

Features street performances, street performance lessons, stage music, shinshuu soba sampling, and Enoshima excursion tour cruises. At the same time, dragon boat races related to the “legend of the heavenly maiden and the five-headed dragon” will be held.

Yokosuka Mikoshi Parade : October 21 (Sun)

Location: from Chuo Street to Clement Blvd. at U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Yokosuka-City

A parade of approximately 68 mikoshi (portable shrines) and sansha (floats), ladder-top acrobatics, etc. will be held. The parade will start at Chuo Street and head for Clement Street inside the Navy Base. Within the Base, American food stands with pizza, BBQ, etc. will be available and places such as the bowling alley and movie theater will be open.

Ichiya Castle Festival : October 21 (Sun)

Location: Mt. Ishigaki Ichiya Castle Historical Park, Hayakawa, Odawara-City

Traditional Japanese music performance, Hojo taiko drum performance, magic, Odawara bayashi music, kachidoki (victory song) performance by an Odawara Hojo handmade armor troop and kacchu shimai (armor-clad dancers), karate, odawara essa hoi odori dance, qigong, and tai chi chuan will be shown on stage. On the outer citadel lawn plaza, open-air tea ceremony, free distribution of “battle” nabe (hot pot dishes) and mochi (rice cakes), and an Odawara chochin lantern making corner will be available.
