Kawasaki Daishi

Kawasaki Daishi This temple was built about 860 years ago, and is famous as the head temple of the Chizan school of the Shingon Sect of Buddhism. Daishi is proud to be known nationwide as a spiritual protector, and is one of the top three temples that people visit at New Year. In front of the temple is a shopping street with shops selling famous goods, such as Kuzu Mochi cakes, cough drops, rice candy and good luck Daruma dolls.

Ikuta Green Park

Ikuta Green Park Ikuta Green Park, situated in the rolling Tama hills, is the largest green space in the city and is surrounded by natural trees such as kunugi and conola oaks. With the cherry blossom of Mt. Masugata, the 1200 iris plants in the Iris Park, the Hydrangea Park as well as the camellias and azaleas in the City Flower Park, you can enjoy Ikuta Green Park in all four seasons.

Japan Open Air Folk House Museum

Japan Open Air Folk House Museum This is an open-air museum of traditional houses. There are 25 cultural properties including traditional private residences from Eastern Japan as well as a water mill, a boatman's house, and a Kabuki stage from a farming village, all set in a hilly area. This is a first-class open-air museum in terms of quality. (There are 7 nationally-designated important cultural properties, one nationally-designated important tangible folklore cultural property, 10 prefecturally-designated important cultural properties, and 7 municipally-designated historical monuments.)

Taro Okamoto Museum of Art

Taro Okamoto Museum of Art This art museum centers on a collection of works of art and documents donated by Taro Okamoto, an artist with a close connection to Kawasaki, and mainly has exhibitions featuring the work of modern artists including the artist's parents, Kanoko and Ippei.

Nakamise Dori Street

Nakamise Dori Street This street runs from the main road to the Oyama gate of Kawasaki Daishi. There are about 40 shops selling Kawasaki souvenirs such as Kuzu Mochi and good-luck Daruma dolls. With the rhythmical sound of the candy sticks being cut up, and the cheerful voices of the people, this street scene has been chosen as one of the best 100 traditional soundscapes in Japan.
