Kanagawa Prefecture, located south of Tokyo, with convenient transportation, mountains and beaches, encapsulates the best of tourism that Japan has to offer. Although the second-most populous of Japan’s 47 prefectures, Kanagawa is relatively small, having an area of 2,400 sq. km.

But in Kanagawa you’ll find aspects of nature, culture, history, performing arts, and links to Japan’s emergence as a modern nation. Yokohama, for example, is Japan’s first international trade port, and Kamakura is an ancient city with a history spanning 1,000 years. The mountainous areas in the western regions of Kanagawa are vast tracts of untouched nature. Hakone and Yugawara number among Japan’s most famous hot spring spas (onsen).

Kanagawa is truly a condensation of Japan’s unique appeal to visitors and can without exaggeration be called a touristic world of wonder.

We look forward to young people from all over the world visiting Kanagawa. The attractions of Kanagawa fill us with pride, and we firmly believe that introducing people to those attractions when they are young will be rewarding for them in the future.

We hope that this guide will interest the young people of your country in visiting Kanagawa Prefecture.
